HARRISBURG – Residents with damaged or faded license plates will be able to obtain free replacements at one of several events scheduled for May, Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) said today.
License plates are considered damaged if they feature a loss of reflectivity, peeling, blistering or discoloration and are unreadable from 50 feet away. Police will be on hand to determine if the plate needs to be replaced and help with appropriate paperwork. There is no fee for this service.
Plate replacements are scheduled for the following dates:

Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center

Tuesday, May 14, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Northern Cambria Police Department
1202 Philadelphia Ave., Northern Cambria (Rear Parking Lot)
Tuesday, May 21, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Ferguson Township District Office
341 Science Park Road, State College
Thursday, May 30, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Portage Borough Building
721 Main St., Portage (Rear Parking Lot)
Once submitted to PennDOT, the replacement plate with the same design and new number will arrive by mail to the vehicle owner’s home address. PennDOT only lets a person keep the same registration number if the plate was personalized at the outset, unless you pay an extra fee.
