Sandyvale Memorial Day Ceremony

I was honored to speak at the Sandyvale Memorial Day Ceremony in recognition of the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Bridge Dedication Ceremony Honoring WWII Veteran

I attended a bridge dedication ceremony for the naming of the PFC Dr. Alex W. Barber Memorial Bridge in Johnstown.

A graduate of Johnstown High School, Private First Class (PFC) Barber enlisted in the United States Army in 1943 and served in World War II. While administering care to his fellow soldiers, he was wounded in action. For his heroic actions, PFC Barber was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters. After the war, he returned home and became a chiropractor. PFC Barber passed away on October 14, 1986, and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.

Students from the Greater Johnstown School District drafted the legislation to name this bridge as part of a research project for their social studies class. This project allowed students to learn about the military service and heroism of a Greater Johnstown alum, while also learning about the legislative process. I was proud to sponsor the legislation in the Senate that was signed into law as Act 63 of 2024.

Aerium Summit 2025

I joined community members, aviation educators and industry professionals for the 2025 Aerium Summit at the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, where I participated in various panels discussing the role aviation has in our local economy and the benefits it brings to our region.

Upcoming Senior Expo in DuBois

Mark your calendar for my upcoming Senior Expo at the DuBois Mall next month! State Representative Mike Armanini and I are hosting a free Senior Expo featuring door prizes, health screenings, and exhibitors from government agencies and senior citizen organizations. The expo will take place on Thursday, June 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the DuBois Mall, 5522 Shaffer Road, DuBois, PA 15801.

34th Annual Showcase for Commerce

I attended the kickoff of the 34th Annual Showcase for Commerce at the Cambria County War Memorial in Johnstown.

Upcoming Free License Plate Replacement Events

I will be hosting a series of free license plate replacement events across the 35th Senatorial District next month! Anyone with a damaged license plate is invited to stop by to start the process to receive a replacement plate for free. License plates are considered damaged if they feature a loss of reflectivity, peeling, blistering, or discoloration, and are unreadable from 50 feet away. Police will be present at the events to determine if plates need to be replaced and to help with any necessary paperwork.

Once an application is submitted to PennDOT, a replacement plate with the same design and a new number will arrive by mail to the vehicle owner’s home address. PennDOT only allows an individual to keep the same registration number if the original plate was personalized or if the individual pays an extra fee.

The dates, times, and locations of the plate replacement events are as follows:

June 4, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Clearfield Fair Grounds
5615 Park Street, Clearfield

June 11, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Cambria Heights Elementary School
138 E. Campbell Street, Carrolltown

June 12, 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Greater Johnstown High School
222 Central Avenue, Johnstown

June 17, 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Blue Course Church
1243 Blue Course Drive, State College

Celebrating Path of the Flood, 2025 PA Trail of the Year

I was honored to present a Senate citation to the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority to celebrate the Path of the Flood Trail being named Pennsylvania’s 2025 Trail of the Year.

50th Anniversary of Centre Safe

It was an honor to join Senator Dush in sponsoring a Senate citation recognizing Centre Safe for their extraordinary service and advocacy over the past half-century.

For 50 years, Centre Safe has provided confidential and professional support to survivors of sexual violence, domestic and dating violence, and stalking. Their unwavering commitment to safety, healing, and justice has made a profound difference in countless lives.

30th Anniversary of Penn Highlands Community College

I had the pleasure of presenting Penn Highlands Community College President Steve Nunez with a Senate citation in recognition of Penn Highlands Community College’s 30th Anniversary.

10th Anniversary of Cambria County Mental Health Treatment Court

Cambria County’s Mental Health Treatment Court recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary. For the last decade, the court has been working closely with mental health professionals to help individuals struggling with mental health receive treatment and support.

New Clearfield District Office Location

My district office in Clearfield has moved to a new location. While the address has changed, the phone and fax numbers remain the same. If you’re a Clearfield County resident and you need assistance with any state-related issue, stop by my new Clearfield office at the address above or call (814) 765-0555.

Bill to Increase Firefighters in PA Receives Senate Support

Pennsylvania relies on volunteer firefighters, but their numbers are dropping – from 300,000 in the 1970s to fewer than 38,000 today. To help ensure there are enough firefighters to respond to a crisis, the Senate passed a bill that would reform the process for people earning their firefighter certification.

Senate Bill 90 would maintain the high standards to become a firefighter while making it less intimidating for men and women who are interested in serving their communities as volunteer firefighters. Currently, firefighter applicants must complete four training modules totaling 188 hours. They then must pass a cumulative test covering all four modules. The bill would allow them to be tested following each of the four modules.

Senate Bill 90 heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

Prevent Surprises on the Road with PennDOT’s Construction Plans

As the weather improves, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is spending more time maintaining the state’s approximately 40,000 roadway miles and 25,400 bridges.

You can be aware of and plan for delays you experience driving by checking the status of construction projects in your area. Information about projects underway, beginning and being bid this year is listed here.

Road work projects are chosen through an extended planning process in four-year and 12-year increments. Learn more about the State Transportation Improvement Plan and the Twelve Year Program.

Enjoy a Great American Getaway in PA

Tourism is an important part of Pennsylvania’s economy. In 2022, the most recent year with available data, we welcomed more than 192 million travelers and benefited from $45 billion in visitor spending.

The commonwealth has a lot to offer, even to people who call it home. Find some great ideas for vacations and day trips here.
