HARRISBURG – Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) will take part in three ceremonies this week to name local bridges in honor of fallen servicemen.
The bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 403 over the Conemaugh River between the City of Johnstown and West Taylor Township, Cambria County, will be designated the Captain Raymond W. Callahan, Jr. Memorial Bridge. A graduate of Greater Johnstown High School, U.S. Army Captain Callahan was killed in action on Feb. 23, 1969, in Phuoc Long province in the central highlands of South Vietnam.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 11 a.m. at the Johnstown American Legion, 114 Main Street in Johnstown.
The bridge carrying U.S. Route 219 over Pennsylvania Route 56, also known as Scalp Avenue, in Richland Township, Cambria County, will be designated the Stanly Albert Stys Memorial Bridge. A graduate of Johnstown High School, U.S. Army PFC Stys was killed in action on March 6, 1968, in the Thua Thien province of South Vietnam.
The ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Richland Fire Hall, 1321 Scalp Avenue in Johnstown.
The bridge located on State Route 322 over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in the Borough of Clearfield, Clearfield County, will be designated the Walter Lane Memorial Bridge. A native of Clearfield, Mr. Lane served in the Pacific during World War II, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Serving as an equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Mr. Lane was killed during a highway repair job on August 28, 1970.
The ceremony will be held on Friday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Lower Witmer Park, 1 East Locust Street in Clearfield.
