Local Grants Awarded to Support Historical Organizations

Five historical organizations in the 35th Senatorial District have been awarded state grants totaling $40,301 to support their general operations, according to Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35).

He said the funding, awarded through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, will enable the facilities to continue serving as educational resources for area residents and provide tourism and economic development opportunities.

“I’m so pleased that our area will benefit from this important funding, which not only helps to keep history alive, but also create jobs and contributes to the local economy,” Langerholc said. “We have a rich heritage here and these facilities and organizations help to support and showcase this very important resource.”

Grants were awarded to the following facilities:

Bedford

  • Bedford County Historical Society – $4,000
  • Old Bedford Village – $4,512

Cambria

  • Cambria County Historical Society – $4,000
  • Johnstown Area Heritage Association – $23,789

Clearfield

  • Clearfield County Historical Society – $4,000

Award amounts are determined using an equation based on a percentage of the eligible museum’s previous year’s operating budget. The maximum any museum could receive is $40,000. All official county historical societies receive a $4,000 minimum grant.
